New work is currently travelling Europe with Barbara Schmidts "Monatringe" project. It involves twelve designers. Each has been asked to design a ring to be incorporated into a book of 12 differant rings, one for each month of the year. Its an impressive format and a great collectors item. Sian's contribution are rings made from cut Tyvek a washable and unrippable recycled plastic paper in packs of thirty. The books are now available from Sian and cost 365 Euros, a Euro for each day of the year.
She exhibited new work at theChipfactory show in Soho ( September 05), big silver necklaces plated with black gold, a bit victorian heavy and slightly evil.
Sian has started a permanent post at Central St Martins College of Art and Design as Senior lecturer. She will be able to persue some of her more interesting experiments with technology with the college, very exiting.
....watch this space.... there will be an exhibition. 2006 is also her 20th year designing and making jewellery.
She is also involved with the development of the ACJs' (Association of Contemporary Jewellers)London 2006 Conferance on Sustainability. Its working name is 'carry the can' and will be looking at some difficult choices that jewellers should be making but cannot at the moment. There is very little accessable information about the provenance of the materials we use in our practice. Get in contact if you have views on this. 3 comments
